Equity Policies in Global Higher Education
This open‑access volume critically explores global policies and practices designed to promote equity in participation and attainment within higher education. Despite the mass expansion of university systems facilitating access for students from underprivileged backgrounds, significant socioeconomic inequalities persist—especially in admission to selective institutions and programs. The book analyzes case studies spanning countries with and without affirmative action, under varying policy models including neoliberalism and social democracy. It examines how entrenched advantages—such as better prior schooling, information access, lower aversion to debt, and higher familial expectations—continue to privilege certain students.
