Higher Education in the melting pot
This scholarly volume grew out of a 2018 Education Deans Forum in Johannesburg and critically examines the dual discourses of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and decolonisation in South African higher education. It explores how these discourses converge and diverge across epistemological, ontological, axiological, and methodological dimensions—sometimes competing for dominance in shaping future higher education policies and practices. Featuring contributions from leading South African academics, the chapters address issues such as the automation of academic environments, digital inequality, curriculum technologisation, online pedagogy, and the complexities of remote university instruction in post‑colonial contexts
