Design Science and Its Importance in the German Mathematics Educational Discussion
This open-access ICME-13 Topical Survey provides an in-depth exploration of design science within the German mathematics education discourse. It begins by examining the historical roots and scope of design science, followed by two case studies focusing on substantial learning environments from both student and teacher perspectives. The book discusses how empirical research can be conceptualized within design science and reflects on its development from national and international viewpoints. Emphasizing the German-language tradition, the work draws primarily on Wittmann's contributions, highlighting the design and investigation of learning environments that engage deeply with mathematics.
