Shaping The Future of South Africa's Youth
This book examines South Africa's post-school education and training system, focusing on the challenges faced by youth in transitioning from education to employment. Despite significant progress in school enrolment and the restructuring of Further Education and Training (FET) colleges, approximately three million young people remain not in education, employment, or training (NEET). The authors analyze various aspects of the post-school system, including the impact of the national qualifications framework on occupational training, the effects of youth unemployment, the capacity of the system to accommodate more students, the relationship between universities and FET colleges, and the need for strategic investment in skills development. The book offers recommendations to improve alignment between schooling, further education, and university education, aiming to provide better pathways for youth development
